My ACL Mixed Train which ran into Myrtle Beach SC. This train has the Atlas purple schemed GP-7 followed by various freight cars plus a Baggage, Coach, and Caboose. I painted all three of those. The MB mixed train ran daily between Chadbourn NC and Myrtle Beach SC. At Chadbourn connections could be made with Passenger trains 54 and 55 which ran between Atlanta and Wilmington NC. In March of 1953 mixed train operations ended. The MB depot today is owned by the city and was completely restored to is original luster when built in 1934. It is used for civic events and has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. I was a member of the Committee who worked to save it. No mixed trains run today but the Carolina Southern Railroad which leases the line from Horry County occasionally runs a box car or flat into 84 lumber just west of the original depot. Also they have run fan trips from the depot. Hope you enjoyed the video.

  • The cement or covered hoppers are there for storage. They still service 84 lumber occasionally. The trestle bridgre just before 84 lumber needs work. The CS crews use a backhoe to pullthe car across after that point to 84 lumber. Its my understanding now that the bridge will soon be repaired. In red hill Tank cars are being filled with old cooking grease to be processed inti bio Diesel.. Of course rocks are still being brought to the pine island which you can see from highway 31.

  • Thanks very much.

  • Yes I grew up on this line. The station and tracks are still in existence in Myrtle Beach. Just restored the Depot a few years ago. This the typical train that came in to Myrtle Beach in the early 50's.

  • Nice! I'm in Conway, SC right now. I believe there is an industry in Myrtle by the cement (or rock, one if them) that uses tank cars, but beyond that, the line is used for storage, which is to bad. I don't even think the 84 lumber is used anymore.

  • Good job.

  • Nice modeling work on the train Lawbench191! And you did a lot of research to authentically model the train!
