The Zaon Flight Systems PCAS XRX collision avoidance system has the ability to display traffic information on a variety of portable aviation GPS units. This is a demo sequence displayed on a Garmin GPSmap 496 running in simulator mode.

  • the aural alert is good but the alarm is a bit distracting.

  • It's good to have the option. I actually don't prefer the aural alerts and depend on the beeps to advise me when traffic is detected. It's pitch is such that it easily penetrates a loud cockpit (I have a 300 HP Cessna 206) without being overly disruptive.

  • Fantastic ! Buuuuuummmmm !!!

  • I have the XRX (recommended by my neighbor) and I can tell you it definitely works, and is better than flight-following. I have already had several incidents where it gave me a heads up to situations which would have been too close for comfort, but it tracks them well and leaves me to relax in high density airspace. I find the audio to be exactly what and when I want to be warned. Mine is wired to my 496, which works perfectly for me. I definitely would not fly without it, plus I saved $15k!

  • Yes it does.

  • Does this work if the approaching aircraft's transponder is set to 1200?

  • Maybe it should play soothing whale calls to lull you to sleep instead of, you know, warning you. :P

  • The aural alert is supposed to be "disrtrating." That's the whole point.

  • How do the alarms work? That is, I don't see how you would interface the intercom/comm with the GPS??? Thanks.

  • There's a GPS called "Flight Cheetah" that i've been looking at. It appears to run on windows and uses some sort of condensed Tablet PC for operation.

  • impressive, anyone have first hand experience?
