first time i heard scott talk...
-
pop punk is just a subgenre of punk. they're not just pop along or theyd be boys like girls. they still have the punk element of speed and simplicity which was showed much more with scott...and they were still blink before travis they can do it again..thats were the best songs came from..before travis..all they need is mark and tom...travis is a good asset tho
-
@LittleMissCutThroat But Blink 182 are not "punk"...they are pop-"punk". They wouldn't be Blink without Travis, I don't really think that needs to be debated.
-
@cooperhortonmusic what i think is that they would have had plenty of success either way. I think since they got Travis for Enema, their sound obviously changed and ultimately i'm sure quite a bit of the fan base was changed. Most punk band drummers play like Scott and can still become big. Rancid's drummer wasn't anything special either, but they were a big band. I do agree they wouldn't be nearly as big, but i still think they'd be pretty rich and playing good size shows though.
-
@queerp You think half the songs would have been nearly as good with Scott after Dude Ranch? Their latest record would be non existent...all scott could do was play fast
-
@cooperhortonmusic yes they would, they had a fair bit of success from Dude Ranch, so no matter what Enema of the State was going to be quite big regardless. Sure i think they wouldn't have had as much success without him, but they'd still be quite successful. Travis is given a little too much credit, because before the recording of Enema, Mark and Tom already to planned to change the way they wrote songs. they wanted to progress and have new rhythms etc.

@blackballmime No, he was a kid. People grow up

@BananaSplat Blink would be nowhere without Travis
-
I prefer scott too, I know what punk drumming sounds like and if you read my comment correctly you would understand that I said travis doesn't fit into that style and scott is better at it. :p
-
@BananaSplat then you obviously dont know what punk drumming is ... scott's beats were very punk , travis has his own style i guess.
i personally much prefer scott.
Tom was way cooler in his early 20's.

no way is travis barker is a better punk drummer than scott, travis barker is more technical, punk doesnt seem to fit his style of drumming
