I think they were released for the 20th-ish anniversary originally and have had various re-releases since. (Tho '99 would have been the 20th and not '01, so I am most likely wrong). I think in 2001 they were randomly packed in MG kits as a freeby, but randomly. HLJ was taking them out and selling them individually, if I recall correctly. That being said, they were meant to be used with the 1.0 Zaku II and the Gundam set could be used for either the 1.0 or the 1.5 Gundam. Nice find, vegeta!

based on the translation of gundam and zaku, I'd say this is a Taiwan released, basically what happens is because Hong Kong uses Cantonese primarily, the translations of gundam names are actually different in two regions
