This is a tribute to my cousin Myles. He was killed on January 10, 1999 in Freetown Sierra Leone by child soldiers while working for the AP. His name is on the Journalists Memorial located in the Newseum in Washington, D.C.

  • Thanks for sharing your experience, mandickGUSAI.

  • Your Grand Central story reminds me of my first solo trip as a little kid from VT to NYC on a grey hound bus to visit Myles. I was so scared! When I finally made it to street level - there was Myles. You're right, he did tower above most. :)

  • Interesting. He left us exactly ten years ago today. His mother, Hanne, is showing a video of him and having a reception at her gallery in Brooklyn, FiveMyles.

I wish I could take credit for the video, but I understand it was produced by his friends in cnn - his ap friends were too close.

  • Thank you for putting the work into this video. Myles was a great spirit, a curiosity and friendliness that was such fun to be around in such dusty and hot places.

  • Thank you for making the tribute video for Myles Tierney. It saddens me to say that i was in the same helicopter that transported his body from sierre leone. Back then i was only a kid...11 years old...but I remember it vividly :((

  • I was just discussing with my fiance regarding the perils of the international journalist, with two being killed today in Libya and I remembered Myles. We attended the same middle school (The O. Henry School) and were schoolyard pals. I ran into him years later, when he recognized me out of a crowd near Grand Central (he towered above most :). He was as cool and funny as he was in school. This is a fitting tribute to an amazing individual.

  • i went to High School with Myles. His name just popped into my head and I Google him ..just to find out...I'm saddened by his passing. This tribute is very touching, well done. RIP old friend

  • Myles, RIP..........

  • Myles was a good friend, Thanks for making this. He'll aways be missed. Harry
