  • Canadians. We have everything, from healthcare to accents. ;]

  • Sounds like a Mersey scouse, but not quite. As @stiffex said, must be because of the Irish influence.

  • @punchion Thank You and I second that. I hate the "NEWFIE" label!

  • @punchion so true, there are a million dialects of "Newfinese" . I'm from the Great Northern Penninsula and if I travel two towns over they sound different than people from my town. Every area has their own dialect. I think it makes our province and culture that much more beautiful.

  • lol newfs <3

  • wow im from ireland and i think you sound irish

  • It sounds like a Bay Roberts accent to me. There is no such thing as a Newfoundland accent.

There are many! Some areas of the island were settled by Irish and some other areas settled by English from the Devon area of England. Thus the accents are very different. Some areas of the Southern Shore are very Irish sounding especially in Calvert. And another thing, we're NEWFOUNDLANDERS, not NEWFIES!!!!

  • you sound irish! but you're cute ..

    :)

  • Deffo a big Celtic influence on the lingo almost sounding like Parvees; id say that Irish has had the sort of influence on the Newfie accent as London Cockney has had on the Oz accent.

  • @timmano0 One time on Here and Now they were talking to a professor from MUN who did some research on Newfoundland English, he said it was a combination of Irish, Scottish, French, English and some first nations also. Would seem to make sense as those groups did settle in Newfoundland (or where already there).
