Long ago I gave up looking for Atlantis. We remember cities that have perished under the water. These are everywhere that people lived near the sea or by the glaciers in the Holocene era. If I were to look for Plato's Atlantis, I would look where Mexico and Central America are now. These places had populations thousands of years ago. They lived just where Plato describes -- continents east of the Straight of Gibraltar in the Atlantic Ocean. More important to us is the message the Egyptian priest gives us in the Atlantis story. "you remember a single deluge only, but there were many previous ones..." Many times and in many places, people have had to flee from catastrophes of fire and water, leaving all signs of their civilizations buried in ash or submerged below the sea. In the Cenotes and underwater caves and off the shores of Mexico and Guatemala we will find clues of the first people to use what we know as the Mayan Calendars.
