Brent Evans discusses research he and his colleagues at the Stanford University School of Education conducted on the ACT. Their data show that the Math and English subject tests provide all of the predictive power of the exam. Other subjects like Science and Reading have little or no predictive power, the researchers find.

    Is there is some way to reach those poor science/reading kids and tell them to hang on... it gets better? Cognitive science is beginning to reveal how our varied brain structure impacts our learning style. Maybe instead of an SAT or ACT, we could have a quick neural impulse scan to see what areas connect to what and if we are, say, a spatial learner, rather than a symbolic or verbal learner, and armed with that information as part of our application, find a school that fits our unique style.
