Rowland Sutherland Sextet @ jazz re:freshed 20/10/10

Melodious and evocative jazz explorations of experiences in the UK, the Caribbean and Latin America emanate from this new expressive sextet led by celebrated flautist Rowland Sutherland.

Having drawn inspirations from artists such as Ernest Ranglin, Rico, Monty Alexander and Airto Moreira in the late 1980s, the sextet have been taking Caribbean Nu Jazz, Brazilian and Latin jazz to new dimensions. Imaginative, expressive compositions exude from the band, all performed with enormous amounts of passion and verve.

The sextet's line-up draws upon an impressive collection of band leaders featuring Rowland Sutherland - Flute (George Benson, Flora Purim), Harry Brown - Trombone (Skatalites, Roy Ayers), Nick Ramm - Keyboard (Cinematic Orchestra, Bembe Segue), Phil Dawson - Guitar (Tony Allen, Hugh Masekela), Dave O'Brien - Bass (Brian Abraham's District 6, F-ire Collective), Rod Youngs - Drums (Horace Andy, Gil Scott-Heron).
