This is Satori in Tangier from King Crimson's album "Beat", performed live in Philadelphia on July 30, 1982. This is from The Collectable King Crimson volume 2. If you like what you hear, buy the album! DGM live is where you want to go. Anyway, this is really a great version of this song, despite the lackluster sound quality (Which youtube will no doubt further deteriorate). What really sets this song apart from other versions, in my opinion, is the way in which the song apparently spirals out of control in the concluding minute. The interplay between Belew and Fripp in the 80's was at an all time high, and I believe this song stands as a testament to this. King Crimson forever

I have been listening to King Crimson for years and I never noticed that before. Thank you.

  • @MrCbud420 Tangier Morocco, a popular getaway for some of the beat writers in the 50s.

  • great song, great performance, great musicians

  • Oriental ;)

  • Songs like this sometimes make me wonder why King Crimson ever bothered with vocals (except on their debut of course).

  • I hope the jazz musician who invented the Chapman Stick has had opportunity to hear Tony Levin's intro to this tune--talk about validation....

This tune makes one feel powerful and alive--

Some mainstream rock is just as exhilarating, like the Pretenders' "Precious," i.e., or the Beatles' "Revolution,"--so why isn't KC more of a mainstream success?

    They sure deserve to be.

They're as great as just about anyone--

  • Im from morocco !!!

  • @StarlessL5 You can read "Sartori" in the album's cover.

From Wikipedia: ""Sartori [sic] in Tangier" also derives its title from beat influences including the Jack Kerouac novel Satori in Paris, and the city of Tangier in Morocco, where a number of beat writers resided and which they often used as a setting for their writing. The song was first released as a b-side to the Heartbeat 12" single in 1982.
