1963 Bulova Accutron Spaceview

For a few years, before the invention of "quartz watches", the most accurate means of telling time was the Accutron tuning fork movement. This is the Accutron 214 movement. There is one of these movements in one of the instruments that is on the surface of the moon.
It is a true testament to the craftsmanship we used to possess in the U.S.of A. that this watch still works some 46 years later!

It is a true steppingstone between purely mechanical and purely electronic timepieces.

  • I have a Zenith xl-tronic. It's the same thing.

  • @SuperMarianW Cool! What year is it?

  • is this the same movement as the precisionist collection ?

  • @vagos290189 To the best of my knowledge... no. The Precisionist is a quartz crystal based reference while the old Accutrons were transistor based running at a frequency of 360 Hz while the quartz version is likely to be in the "five digit" Hz range. Seems I did read somewhere that they were re-releasing some of the original design as well.

    Thanks for watching!
