36 years from today, Allan Sherman died from Emphysema at the age of 48. I thought I would give a little acknowledgement to this brilliant and funny man who died way too soon. If he were alive today, I could picture him writing more funny material and providing his voice in more cartoons.

this is very funny, people back then were so easily amused...Chris Rock would blow his brains out if he had to work with this material.

Comparing Sherman to what's come out since is like comparing the Wright Brothers' Flier to a Cessna 172 Skyhawk. He may be more rudimenory, but he made the rest(Weird Al Yankovitch, Bob Rivers ect.)possible

What I mean is that he only plays with the words, there is no proffanity or dirty double meanings and its funny that way. Any comedian now would have a tough time comming up with funny material with those constraints.

It would be interesting to go back and see the critical reactions of the time to the Beatles. I remember reading of an article in the Vatican newspaper, L'osservatore Romano, in the sixties, which heaped scorn on the Beatles, even referring to their 'ridiculous' name!
