The store in the background used to be Woolworth. They had a lunch counter on the main level. The basement had a connection to the Powell Street station. Now that Woolworth is gone, I miss shopping at that type of store.
You're RIGHT! I remember going into that Woolworths as a kid. It's now a Gap, but I still think of it as the dime store that smelled like cafeteria food, especially hot roast beef sandwiches. I loved the candy counter too. Fun, huh?
