My first-ever Hawaiian beer review! Well, not really. Kona, Widmer, Redhook and Goose Island are all part of the "Craft Brewers Alliance" which means they're all essentially the same company and they all contract brew each other's beers. Here on the east coast all Kona beers are brewed by Redhook in New Hampshire. I actually had this beer when I was in Key West, FL last year and it was pretty appropriate for the setting I'd say. Season 15, Episode

BREWERY'S DESCRIPTION & INFORMATION:
Fire Rock Pale Ale is crisp, refreshing "Hawaiian-style" pale ale. Its signature copper color results from the unique blend of specialty roasted malts. The pronounced citrus-floral hop aroma comes from the liberal amounts of Galena, Cascade & Mt.Hood hops added to each brew.
Fire Rock Pale Ale pairs exceptionally well with a broad variety of foods. Its hop character and full body stand up against heartier dishes and barbecue, but it doesn't overtake lighter fare like chicken or salads.
Bitterness: 35 IBU
Alcohol by Volume: 5.9%
Original Gravity: 14.0 P
Malts: PALE, WHEAT, MUNICH, HONEY
Hops: GALENA, CASCADE, MT.HOOD

  • there pipeline porter is also delicious i love kona brewing they nailed it

  • @ChadzBeerReviews Well that explains it all right there. Sorry to hear that,

  • ooh any English style Pale Ale, sounds good Chad, cheers :-)

  • @Ronlb3469 we get most of their line here because it's contract brewed by Redhook.

  • @ChadzBeerReviews Widmer actually brews some very good special beers that I'm sure you don't get in NY. Don't just think they only brew the beers you find in the supermarket.

  • @Ronlb3469 Yeah but all the CBA brewers are supermarket brewers, they're not making top shelf stuff like Southern Tier, Three Floyds, Founders, etc.

If you were 33% dirty would you be surprised if people called you dirty? Or would you say "no, I'm 66% clean! It's not fair to call me dirty"

  • @ChadzBeerReviews Do you normally go around saying that a company is owned by the minority owner? I just get tired of people bashing the CBA brewers by saying their owned by Anheuser-Busch. A-B is only a partner for their distribution network. They have nothing to do with the making of the beer. I think Widmer makes very good beer, but there are always the people who try to discredit them by throwing in the Bud ownership. Really pisses me off,

  • I had this beer when I was in Florida. I could tell it was old (the liquor store didn't appear to sell a lot of craft beer), but it was still pretty good. It was the only craft beer I found where I was at so I was happy to have it. Not great, but a solid Pale Ale!
