Why do I keep picturing him in a circus?

@lion575 I think giving out levels up to black belt is fine for technical skill. The kid is pretty good. But anything beyond requires the building of substance in the art which a kid probably doesn't have yet. For me black belt is like the starting line for an art where you have learnt all the starting prerequisites.

I'm sorry to say it, but this is total bullshit. You should not give a first degree black belt to a 12 year old, let alone a second degree. This is a perfect example of martial arts schools, especially the ata, give black belts out at the drop of a hat.It seems you can be promoted based on the size of your parent's wallet, not skills.

Okay, I have to say a couple of things in response to some comments:
1)Patches do not make it a McDojo. When your teaching young kids, they need motivators, and patches are a great motivator for them.
2) I don't think that there is a magic age you can reach and BAM your black belt material. I think that some are ready before others. I do agree though that there are aspects of the art that simply cannot be fully comprehended at a young age.
Having said that: This kid is very good!!!!!

fucking product of a mcdojo. look at all the damn patches .

Martial arts are cultural treasures and deserve to be respected. juggling forms executed for the sake of choreography belongs to the movies. Having said that, the kids deserve to be commended for his spirit, which i admire.

I personally trained with S. Egami, direct student of Funakoshi, Sensei Murakami and Sensei Yumoto from the JKA when i have turned to Shotokan. at that time there were no colored belts, we were either white or black and getting shodan (black) before 5 years was unthinkable. I teach now a style derived from shorin ryu very similar to Matsubayashi Ryu. and the time my student need to spend practicing before they get to try for a black belt grading is 5 years starting from their 18th year of age.

i think that there are things that you cannot understand at such a young age, no matter how mature you are. the kid is good at what he is doing, but that is hardly true martial arts. Giving black belts at such a young age gives a false sense of confidence that is doomed to be proofed inadequate in the real world and therefore dangerous for the kid himself.

lol if he lets go it will hit someone in the face
@AshleyGoesBewm I'm not gonna comment on age, but I think black belts are to readily given out in general. I had a friend that was in a serious Kung Fu school fram age 5 to 18 and was still not a Black Belt and won every tournament he was in. The School was very strict and rarely gave out Black Belts (i.e. you really had to earn it). I feel thats kind of how it should be.

Okay, i hate how poeple hate it when young kids get black belts. Age doesn't matter at all. There's some poeple that is 18 and even they don't act mature.
