Another (Dutch) 121-owner here :-) I've owned three so far, and that temperature gauge is in a normal position. They're always just above that normal mark, even when tackling some steep mountain passes in Italy in the summer. Although this is the model with a ref counter; they have smaller temperature gauges so the needle position seems even higher.
The 1.3 LX has a top speed of 153 km/h, the 1.3 GLX 164 and the 1.3 GLX Cabrio version (like mine) won't get over 155 on the GPS :-)

In my opinion runs hot when the meter gets really close to the top end of its scale.
Three days ago i drove my 121 on the Autobahn in Germany. That was one hour of flatout driving, only slowed down now and then by a lorry/truck overtaking another one.
At a slight decent, it reached 176 km/h, which was 171km/h on my GPS.
My 121 makes more revs than the one in this vid.
Mine does 5100rpm at 150km/h (speedometer)
According to my TomTom gps, that's 148km/h. Speedo is accurate!

I'm from the Netherlands, and i live very close to the German border. So i've also driven my 121 flatout on the Autobahn. At 165 km/h (100 mph) on the speedo it stayed exactly at that same temperature it has when normally driven. Slightly above the middle. Very slightly that is though, let's say 52%. The gage needle still "touches" the middle mark.

@DolleHengst Glad at least one other 121 runs that hot then - I use mine as a track car and it never gets close to that hot no matter what I do to it. But as long as it keeps on going for you it doesn't matter! :)

No this temperature is normal. I own a 121 DB myself. Even when driven normally in everyday traffic, the temperature gage is slightly above the middle of its scale.
These engines are supposed to be warm. After a cold start, my 121 idles at 2000rpm, so that it becomes warm faster. Once the engine is heated up, it idles at 800rpm
