though sweetly caressed, the cavatina is constantly flat and sung on the bottom side of the pitch. the cabaletta just becomes "barked" in a manner like so many Verdi baritones of that era would perform. knowing this aria, i was scared for him from the first phrase of the cabaletta.

There is aso live recording from The State Opera in Vienna from 1980. Cappuccilli had to repeat the stretta because wouldn't stop applauding.

@chaiter1 not a studio recording , but this live complete recording is sold under Opera d'Oro seal in a very cheap price. The audio is good enough to enjoy.
