Yes, remember this in its later years (late 70s, early 80s). On Saturday afternoons my mum would watch a couple of boring black-and-white films on BBC 2 (Saturday Cinema), then Play Away would come on, an oasis in the middle of all the old films! Now I rather enjoy the old black and white films, and they don't show them on the telly anymore!

There was a awful rumor that brain can't was indeed a cant, but in reality he was a very nice bloke.

@rejapgee Thanks. Will do.

@outofthegreenmist The theme was written by cult folkie Barry Dransfield. His 'serious' stuff is well worth a listen, by the way - try the eponymous 1972 album. Great stuff!

Floella Benjamin taught me how to tell the time,thank you Floella!
I am 44 and i remember the days when we had one black and white television in the house and only 3 channels to choose from. This was a great tune. I was 6 years old when Playaway first started in 1971. I miss those days as a child, i loved those days.

I seem to remember this as a spin-off of "Play School" - was it on Saturday afternoons? Great song.
