WARREN CO., Ohio -- Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Butler-Warren Road and Reading in Deerfield Township.

The accident claimed the life of a West Chester teenager. 18-year-old Ryan A. Sawyer died at the hospital shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Just before 9 p.m. on Friday night, Sawyer was driving a black 1999 Suzuki Esteem southwest on US 42 when he traveled out of the lane to the right, struck a concrete traffic island, went airborne, landed on Butler-Warren Road, and struck a steel traffic light pole.

Sawyer was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be cut out of the car.

Drugs are suspected in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.

No one else was involved in the crash.

Ryan Sawyer was a senior at Princeton High School. Princeton Students gathered at the school to remember Sawyer on Saturday.

Princeton High also will be open Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. for students to gather. Grief counselors will be available then, as well as first-thing Monday morning when students report for class.

"This is a heartbreaking loss, he was a great kid with a tremendous future," said Superintendent Dr. Gary Pack. "We will be there for his family as well as our family here at Princeton."

"He was a great kid, in great standing at the High School, super popular," said Princeton High School Principal William T. Sprankles III. "Just a great, friendly, outgoing kid."

Ryan played cornerback on the Princeton Vikings football team.
