Since then he put on bout 20kg's more and that's not in fat. Go see what Victor said bout him, playing gainst a lot of international lock's he said: "he's the real deal"... and with Vic's more than 100 tests anyone can take note of that ;-)
@blitzbok you obviously don't know anything about rugby. Bekker against the brumbies today was absolute class. he was physical in the tight stuff, cleared rucks like it was going out of fashion and his ball skills and passing in the loose was spot on. your quote: " He is a big culprit of hiding in the backline, where his shocking ball skills in contact and in retaining passes mess up many promising moves." is frankly just plain nonsense. why don't you go play rugby and see if you can do better?
@Ryanfurse He has a long way to go if he's to be a successful test lock. Much is made of his size, but he is not capable of enduring physicality. He is a big culprit of hiding in the backline, where his shocking ball skills in contact and in retaining passes mess up many promising moves. At test level, he has had only one truly adequate performance. That big win over Aus in 08, but he played very loose, and Aus were unusually error-strewn. His is a pretender, much like most of the new crop.
Bekker is fortunate neither player threw a punch! Bekker is well known for his frailty, and has been crippled by many small players. The pinnacle of these being halted by a 5'7 76kg French 9, which proceeded to dump Bekker 2m backwards and onto his backside. This in the loss to the French in 2008. He is not a test quality lock. I rank him amongst the likes of Adi Jacobs for physical durability. Now, Aplon. That is physicality. Bekker should take notes.
