Come along to scenic Western Canada to pay a visit to the famed Kicking Horse Pass and it's twin Spiral Tunnels. In this musical preview you'll visit Canadian Pacific's mainline between Golden, British Columbia and Calgary, Alberta. The main program features mostly natural sound, and is a great way to enjoy the action over CP's big mountain grade!

  • 1)They weren't slaves, they were low-wage workers working on similar terms to illegals in the US. Underpaid and underappreciated, but not slaves.

    2) Canada was independent in the 1880s, when the railroad was built. The Canadian government failed to complete the job so they hired a consortium of American managers and engineers to build the Canadian Pacific. Several of them put their personal fortunes at stake to complete the railroad.

Read Berton's 'The Last Spike', and learn.

  • There are a number of Chinese graves along this line close to the upper entrance to the Spiral Tunnel. Many people took credit for this magnificent feat of engineering, but it was the Chinese slaves bought and paid for by the British aristocracy that deserves all the credit.

  • I used to maintain the telegraph line on this route between Calgary and Field BC back in the 80's.
