Watch Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction, or Holly Hunter in Broadcast News (a much better romcom) . Cher did not deserve that oscar by any stretch of anyones imagination.
The screenplay went to John Patrick Shanley because he was a huge playwrite at the time, and Hollywood was running low on quality writers for hire. They had to suck up to someone

Cher as an actress. Have you seen Burlesque with Christina Aguilera? Probably not, 'cause it's a girl movie or whatever, but she was decent in that, too. At least in my opinion.
