This is a female leaf insekt (phyllium giganteum). It's sub-adult, meaning that the next molting will make it adult and even larger. It's a bit scared so (like a real leaf) it doesn't move...
They're quiet easy to keep, your can keep them at normal room temperature and feed them blackberry or oak leaves.

  • so what do you do in the winter when there are no leaves?

  • thats the good thing with blackberrys : they are so robust, they even grow/survive in winter :) but the small vines die, i think, but i'm not interested in these, i take the large ones because the leaves are bigger and they stay fresh longer in the terrarium. (always put one end in water, otherwise they wither in a few days)

  • You mean i can keep more than 1 in my enclosure?? I thought they would be aggresiv towards each other

  • no, not at all... you can keep many together, as long as they got enough space and leaves/sticks to climb on, it's no problem at all.. (and enough to eat, of course)

  • My friend, i have purchased the phyllium eggs from ebay i only need 1 egg 1 insect they dont sell them single what should i do woth the rest?? sell them?? i dont want to hatch them and let them loos because they will not survive. What would you do???

  • not every egg hatches, that's why nobody buys or sells only one. Also, there are always losses when they get older, mainly because of unsuccessful molting. So you should raise several, and maybe you can give some to friends or a school (class project).. Also, if you're already doing all the work with terrarium and the food etc, it doesn't make a difference if it's for 1 or several animals..
