I made a "home made Drum" out of a guitar pickup and a string within a piece of sponge.
I use Reaktor to translate the signal with its amplitube to snare drums.
each punch, with sound a snare drum (not the same snare all the time, it changes after every puch) and it has a the amplitude of the punch.
It is very sensitive and there are some great stuff i can do with the reaktor , like setting the dynamic range.

Enjoy

  • Hi. Could you tell me if you hit it with low intensity will the output level sound be low as well? Or will it come out at the same level?

    Thanks in advance

  • Of course every punch has it level. why would i bother so much if it wasnt for detecting the level?

if i'd wanted them to all sound in the same level, i would buy a push-button :)

  • Hi, nice video, I make something like this myself but I use a larger hunk of steel instead of a guitar string so it makes a deep bass sound. I saw this video before it was translated I believe, so now im glad I came back to understand your design. keep making more things.

  • It will be interesting, to investigate the influence of ferromagnetic textures over the pickup, this can be the next generation of Analog (metal) instruments..

And then, u just run it through a Marshall cab with some distortions or something :)

  • Sorry got carried away lol!

great job on the drum! sounds awesome! Wich i could do something like that. :S

    also ;

"wish u could seak english better"

  • Ahiii this is sick

  • Spngedrum pickpants

  • might look homemade cuz obviously the main work wasnt put into the design , but it doesnt sound homemade ...

and thats all that matters ;)

  • go buy a piezo buzzer at radio shack for a couple bucks. break off the black plastic cover, revealing the thin metal buzzer. tape the buzzer to something (drum head/cardboard), hook up some speaker wire to the leads, and it will act as a nice, pressure-sensitve drum trigger. the cheapest solution i've found.

  • this kinda looks homemade.

  • Hola,

    ¿Cómo conseguiste hacer eso?

  • How can I make one of these my israeli brotha?

  • the snare sound is kinda irritating

  • Check RHYTHMTANDEM.
