September 17, 2009 - Former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney celebrates the 25th anniversary of his 1984 majority government, at a gala honouring him in Montreal.

"We had a vision of Canada as a country united at home and admired abroad for our values as much as our prosperity. A land of opporunity, a beacon of hope for the world." - Prime Minister Brian Mulroney

In his speech, Mulroney saluted leaders from other political parties such as John Turner and Ed Broadbent for their commitment to national unity, as well as Tommy Douglas and Leaster Pearson as the founding fathers of Medicare.

  • I wanted to be PM when I was a kid, but doesn't look like it's gonna happen.

Now I just surf the web and watch Youtube videos in my mama's basement.

  • @Gardenstatehomecomin but reform and PC were fundamentaly different, reforms were social conservatives that were pro elected senate and PR and pretty much fiscal libertarians. however the PC's were fiscal conservatives and socialy progressive, so pro hate cirmes legislation and pro bilingualism and pro immigration. and acctually alot of reforms votes came from disgrunteled NDP's and Liberals in the west too. who wanted a real change but could live with social conservatism if it got PR.

  • @Gardenstatehomecomin

    Liberals got 41.24% Low 40's

    REF + PC got 34.73%

Liberals still would have won a majority since they did so well in Ontario (52.9%) but the PCs would have been alive and official opposition.

  • @Mprator but still, they're seat number would have been greatly reduced in anycase seeing as the liberals in 93 managed to get into the high 40's

  • @Gardenstatehomecomin

That was only cause of vote-splitting with Reform.

  • @Speegs23 oh thatmakes more sence

  • I was referencing the video, not the Harper coalition.

  • @Speegs23 oh ok. but here we don't have a conservative majority we have a conservative minority. and the amercan system is diffrent . and pm mulroneys majority was ages agoin the 80's and in the 90's his party only managed to scrape up 21 seats at best and in 1993 they only got 2seats and were no longer and official party lol

  • A conservative majority is going to take hold in the next two US elections in reaction to Obama's incompetence.

  • @Speegs23 what do you meen follow suit?
