THE VELVET VOICE OF JIM REEVES

LISTENING TO JIM REEVES REMINDS ME OF MY CHILDHOOD.

EVERY SUNDAY BEFORE GOING TO EVENING MASS, MY DAD WOULD LISTEN TO ONE OF HIS MANY JIM REEVES LP'S. HE WOULD WEAR HIS BEST SUIT FOR CHURCH AND ALTHOUGH NOT REALLY A SMOKER, HE WOULD SMOKE THE OCCASIONAL 'TOM THUMB' CIGAR AS HE LISTENED TO JIM REEVES AND THE VELVET VOICE OF THIS WONDERFUL SINGER WOULD WAFT AROUND THE HOUSE, SIMPLY MAGIC.

SO, WHENEVER I LISTEN TO A JIM REEVES SONG, I HAVE THESE MEMORIES OF MY DAD'S SUNDAY RITUAL FROM MY CHILDHOOD.

I HAVE ALWAYS BELIEVED THAT IF I LIVE TO BE A HUNDRED, I WILL NEVER HEAR A VOICE SUCH AS JIM REEVES AGAIN, A VOICE SUCH AS HIS ONLY COMES ALONG ONCE IN A LIFETIME AND I FEEL REALLY PRIVILEGED THAT IT WAS IN MY LIFETIME.

I'VE CHOSEN 'AM I LOSING YOU' AS IT IS ONE OF MY PERSONAL FAVOURITES.

Thank you so much for the pure music of Jim Reeves. Since my younger days in the 60's I would simply sing along to all of Jim's beautiful songs. I have almost all of Jim Reeves CD. I especially like his Christmas album which is by far the best and most played CD during Christmas. Simply sentimental.

redhot: My mom and dad were all big fans of Jim Reeves. I really like what you wrote. It reminds me of when I was a young boy, we would all get dressed up in our best for church every Sunday. I've got a special place in my memories for his music. My mom and her many sisters would always play his records.

How Much Better can this Man Get? I Regard Jim are the Greatest Singer of all time. He is my Favorate and his Voice and everyone of his song's are just Timeless.

I too used to listen to Jim Reeves when I was a boy in the 60's. The CW stations here in the South would play Reeves' music for years after his death. There has really been no one to replace him in Country and Western music, nor is there likely to be. Thank you for posting this.

love jim reeves. as a young teenager after a date, i would listen to jin reeves on the way home. a friend of mine also. will never forget those days and i am 60 now.

Oh what a beautiful voice God gave to Jim. I started listening to him on the radio as a child as he grew in popularity and could only dream of being gifted with such a voice of silk! So many good memories listening to him with my parents going down the highway.

I hope to hear his wonderful voice again someday..and it could be soon.

I have heard it said that Jim was difficult to work with. Well "Duhhh." From what I understand of the man, he demanded (of himself) that he provide the best vocal presentation of every song that he sang. No wonder that he expected the same of all the others involved in the production. HOLD THE STANDARD HIGH. So even if you miss the mark a bit, you still have done something wonderful.
