Atascadero native Hannah Donaghe is possibly less than 24 hours away from winning an NCAA national championship. The junior guard and the Stanford women will meet #1 Connecticut in the women's NCAA championship game on Tuesday night in San Antonio, Texas.
UConn beat Stanford earlier this season 80-68. The Huskies have won a record 77 straight games and are one win away from their second straight perfect season and national title. Stanford is the last time to beat the Huskies, back in the Final Four of the 2008 NCAA Tournament.
Donaghe said the Cardinal women believe they can upset Connecticut. "I think if we can get rebounds, clean up the boards and stay aggressive, offensively and defensively, I think we have a really good shot," said Donaghe during a phone interview from San Antonio with KSBY Sports.
The Atascadero High graduate has played five minutes in Stanford's Tournament run.
The women's championship game tips off at 5:30 pm PST on Tuesday. It will be Stanford's second title game appearance in the last three years.
@TheNewMusicNetwork You said that Maya Moore has AIDS and that the UConn team is a group of "afro-tards." It's interesting that you don't think that is racist. And I'll ask you again, how many championships has Stanford won? I commend Stanford for their impressive win against UConn, but both coaches will tell you that it meant little to either team. The goal of any team is to win championships, something Stanford has not done in quite a while. Do trolls live under rocks?

@tonyspizza1800 you are either a fucking idiot or a liar. stanford has more wins against uconn than uconn has against stanforn. just do a google search you inane retard. no i'm not racist. are you? you got a problem with these white women destroying a mainly back team?

@TheNewMusicNetwork then are you a racist? also, uconn has lost to stanford once in the last three years and had won three straight against them until last week's loss. mind you, then defeated stanford in the final four and then in the championship game in 2010 in consecutive years and both times uconn has gone on to win the championship, which is something stanford hasn't won since the early 90's. to say stanford has destroyed uconn in their matchups is just flat out wrong.
