  • I absolutely hate to say this, but that did slightly stink of racial prejudice.

"Instill the values of hard work and independence and self reliance"

So because Natives had their lands stolen from them, forced to give up their culture and heritage, nearly wiped out and forced into schools where they were raped for 50 years, they dont have any values?

    Some times apologies aren't enough,

  • you mutha

  • That DOUCHEBAG is the rreason I would never vote conservative.

  • (cont) But this wont happen because that could potentially mean aboriginal people moving into upper middle class element of society with homes bought cash.., now whitey dont want that now does he. Who would be left at the bottom end of society to fill the low paying jobs and suffer at the hands of police profiling in the need to fill their fines quotas then. An economically empowered aboriginal people is the root at the bottom of Pierre's concerns.., so yes., it is politically motivated racism!!

  • (cont) determine what way whites think the aboriginal peoples are best served with the money. Please., any rational thinking person out there care to tell me what gives the government this right to act as the beneficiary of indigenous monies? We have seen this time and time again and it touches the ground and if you think this is by accident your a fukn moron!! Give each person their individual dues for their suffering and put this one tiny piece of history behind you

  • (cont) To speak of the compensation as if it has any legal bearing on compensation land matters and whatever else is just foolish., and to present this as a racial issue is just daft! As anyone who is wronged be it by state policy or an individual their is legal recourse for compensations. The matter of color is not even an issue in this case. Now the problem with the direction Pierre is taking is to consider being parental with the 4billion and under white management (cont)

  • I am Australian Aboriginal and I dont see what he said as racist BUT., lol., there's always a BUT..., the actions taken by the state in removing aboriginal children was wrongful and documents can be found to prove the attempts at ethnic cleansing of indigenous culture. Now putting that aside the compensation for stolen generations has nothing to do with their being aboriginal or even the attempted cultural genocide but rather reparations to "Individuals" wrongfully denied their birth parents!

  • The best thing I can think of is almost too simple... Keep Talking. Open some eyes.

*sigh* If I am feeling this frustrated and lost I can't imagine what my great great great great (etc) grandmother felt....

  • If first nations take back the land then doesn't that leave non-aboriginals in the same boat aboriginals used to be in? Maybe not, depending on how it is handled.

I wish I had a fix-all solution... because there are obviously problems... I would say "everyone gets the same this, the same that" except that is assimilation and assimilation hurts. And I know that natives wish to keep their culture and many are glad to be able to self-govern.

  • True, first nations have been here since before we can guess.

I'm something like 1/16 Blackfoot, but because my native ancestors are only names on paper I do not "feel" native. I have a great deal of respect for the aboriginal people but I do not claim to BE aboriginal.

Regardless of blood... I feel this is my land too... I live here, it is my home. I do not understand this "take back" concept...
