...he saw, ...., the dark mass of Mount Mindolluin, the deep purple shadows of its high glens, and its tall face whitening in the rising day. And upon its out-thrust knee was the Guarded City, with its seven walls of stone so strong and old that it seemed to have been not builded but carven by giants out of the bones of the earth.
Even as Pippin gazed in wonder the walls passed from looming grey to white, blushing faintly in the dawn; and suddenly the sun climbed over the eastern shadow and sent forth a shaft that smote the face of the City. Then Pippin cried aloud, for the Tower of Ecthelion, standing high within the topmost walls' shone out against the sky, glimmering like a spike of pearl and silver, tall and fair and shapely, and its pinnacle glittered as if it were wrought of crystals; and white banners broke and fluttered from the battlements in the morning breeze' and high and far he heard a clear ringing as of silver trumpets.
So Gandalf and Peregrin rode to the Great Gate of the Men of Gondor at the rising of the sun, and its iron doors rolled back before them.

  • This is the "End of an Age" theme, which shows up next at the END of ROTK! Howard Shore is a genius! See 6:40 here youtube watch?v=mApx-001wRY

  • Thank you Blakeolas. I've listened to both pieces and, yes, French horns are prominent in both but it does not seem to me that it is the same score but I'm no musician. :-)

  • What is the name of that piece anyway?

  • This is from the original film soundtrack composed by Howard Shore. I think it is the piece called "The Fellowship of the Ring: Caras Galadhon " but I'm not 100% sure as my CDs only have the theatrical versions music and this is from the extended DVD version. Hope that helps.

  • This is actually the very first part of The Mirror of Galadriel- verily, it is part of the extended edition, and so would only appear in the Complete Recordings.

  • Thank you, Jaimect.

  • I think, this is one of the most moving and most beautiful part of the movie. I have searched for this short tune for such a long time and finally I found it. LOTR is full of great, emotional songs. It has the best soundtrack ever, no-one has made anything better yet. That's my opinion.

  • These are the true Lords of Gondor.

  • this and borimer death are the most moving scenes in the FOTR

  • Sean bean's greatest performance he and ian mckellen outshone everyone in all films that year

  • This is how I imagine it when I die and go to Heaven ...being called home by silver trumpets

  • One of my favorite scenes in the film.

  • You can hear some of this song in the song "Andúril" from the return of the king

  • You're right that the CD's only got the theatrical versions, because there's only the songs "Lothlorien" and "Farewell to Lorien" in that area of the movie on the original soundtracks

  • No better character than Ecthelion, my friend.

  • my favourite scene in the first.... lovely music <3

  • the most underestimated scene in the whole trilogy. its perfect.
