Demonstration of one way to do a shuffle beat in what is probably a somewhat non-traditional way. In this solo, Greg goes for a feeling of swing and spice. More info on the bones: www.rhythmbones.com

  • You just inspired me to get some bones. Thanks!

  • @complexrhythm ! I'm glad to hear that - thanks for your comment, GREG B

  • Thanks so much for this......I'd like to hear more......there are some significant sound issues on this video, though.

  • Hi! Thanks for comment and feedback! This was one of my earliest YT posts and I was experimenting w/ video file size and I think it's really compressed, creating that weird sound quality. I have another vid that has far superior sound.

  • hi, I intend to put up a new video w/ bones shuffle and scrap this one, as soon as I'm back from Europe tour with Chicha Libre this week and next, stay tuned! I think even my new Blackberry can take better-sounding videos! Thanks for your comment.

  • Awesome, now thats talent.. Before this evening never saw anyone playing the bones, that is making them sing!!!

  • Much appreciated Patti, thanks! -Greg B

  • Good job. That's a cool sounding beat.

  • @gregoryburrows: is there any chance you might be able to re-do this series (shuffle, etc.) with better-quality audio? I'd be most grateful.- lots of great ideas here, but I'd really like to be able to hear the sound of the bones.

  • @drownedinsect: you can try wrapping a piece of leather around one or both bones, so that the strikes are muted. I do it myself, partly to keep the noise level down for myself, also because I've come to like messing around with the variety of sounds I can get with muted vs. non-muted sounds. The leather cuts down on the high-frequency sounds, allowing the fundamental tone of the wood (or bone, should you be using actual bone bones) to sing.

  • do you know of any way to practise bones quietly? i only ever practice outside...cuts down practice time a lot! i guess quiet bones kinda defeats the point
