Segundo Philipp o problema da dívida estava destinado, num contexto de incentivos proporcionados pelas regras em vigor na união monetária, ditadas por razões políticas e não económicas.

Philipp Bagus, "Austrian" economist and professor in the Rey D. Carlos University in Madrid, presents "The Tragedy of the Euro", his recent book on the history and motives behind the economic crisis in the Euro Zone. According to him the debt problem was doomed in face of the incentives posed by the rules of the monetary union, which have been dictated by political instead of economic reasons.
