Introduction to a special portion of Catalyst Investors Annual Meeting: A portion of Catalyst's investments cover digital media. During the '08 annual meeting they invited a selection of operating partners and senior executives from businesses they invest in, to talk. The subject being the future of digital media and how making money from these businesses is likely to progress. Their insights are informative and the language used during this meeting, takes a clinical view of content as a conduit for profit. What are some of the important insights? One of those insights, is the rising expectation among owners of media companies that writers, editors, and other kinds of journalists, in addition to their normal already very busy lives, - need to find more ways to further monetize their efforts. Or risk being out of a job. Is this simply the current reality? Must we all adapt, or are the actions and opinions of capital markets fostering a deterioration of the quality of journalism and media in general? Almost to man, these participants indicate that they still serve the audience. The quality of the media being important to that audience with important caveats.
