Death of Kingpin followed less than 48 hours after this interview with Mike Etherington-Smith.

One among the many reporters at the press conference directly asked Ehterington if he made changes to the course due to the deaths of Fodo Baggins and Quiet Man on last years cross country course at the Rolex. Here is a portion of my report with International equestrian cross country course designer Mike Etherington-Smith.

  • King Pin suffered a hemorrhage of the large vessels in the abdomen unrelated to any jumping effort or trauma, said Dr. Christiana Ober, the Canadian Eventing Team veterinarian. This is a very rare condition and the actual cause is unknown.
