HEY BABY ~ Bruce Channel ~ Smash Records (Illinois) ~ released in January 1962 (& a hit in 1963 ?)
Bruce Channel was born in Jacksonville, Texas and had originally intended on becoming a Country & Western singer . He was featured on the famous LOUISIANA HAYRIDE, in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he stayed for six months. Although he made recordings for King , Teenager, Manco, it was with Smash Records that gained recognition from the record buyers. In mid 1961, he got a recording contract with SMASH RECORDS, where he recorded the now famous , HEY BABY, in late 1961. The flip side of HEY BABY was a ballad called , DREAM GIRL. The record went on to become a number one hit in mid 1962. HEY BABY was heard in the 1987 movie, DIRTY DANCING , starring Patrick Swayze, who in my opinion, was an excellent actor. Sadly, Patrick Swayze passed away on September 14, 2009. As far as, Bruce Channel, he was an excellent singer, with a great sense of timing and perfect use of vibrato and should've been even more popular than he was

  • ....:D..

  • @helltopo : Thanks.

  • @hansmichelsson yes, it does sound a little fast to me, but why not say this without the unpleasantness?

Digital recordings all sound the same, but vinyl ones are dependent on your personal turntable.

It's perfectly understandable that if the OP's TT played a little fast, this is how he would remember the track.

There is TOO much hate on youtube especially when people are sharing stuff for no financial gain!

    Thanks MrRJDB1969
