Word to the wise. If asked for a card number to set up a payment, NEVER give the 16 digit one, this allows the setting up of recurring payments ( aka Continuous Payment Authorities) and outgoings cannot be stopped by either you or your Bank leaving you over a barrel. You have no right to cancel.ONLY ever give your 8 digit account number and sort code to set up direct debits which are then stoppable by you. I closed my account to prevent these delightful people being paid. Also if BT are not your broadband or telephone supplier, you do not need to pay ANY equipment rental to them. BT will not tell you this.
