NPWS undertaking seasonal hazard reduction burning program in the Bellingen River National Park on the escarpment the Dorrigo plateau west of Coffs Harbour.
This burns are being done for both hazard reduction and biodiversity management to prevent some native species dominating in the absence of long-term fire.
These controlled burns were conducted in remote rugged areas and helicopters using aerial incendiary equipment was used to ignite the drier ridgelines.
Ground crews on site monitor weather conditions and assist as required.
