2nd of 2 brief videos that illustrates the final stages of the pack job called the 'psycho method'. These steps include; Making sure the pilot chute is cocked, roling the left 4 cells left, the other 4 cells right,the9th cell position, slider adjusting or 'pouting', tail wrap, d-bag pack, untwist the lines then stowing the first set of lines...

  • What is wrong with pro-packing? :P

  • no thing wron with pro packing, with my cnopyi just prefer it, i also get better openings too :)

  • my observation: once you have the canopy on the ground and shaped like a triangle, the next step is to fold the right and left sides in, but the brake lines tend to fall to the outside so when you fold the sides inward this could cause a brake line to be positioned on top of the nose, causing a line over. Do you agree?

  • No, because in the first video it shows you that the stabilzers are wrapped around the brake lines, then the tail is brought up over the stabilizers then laid down on its back. In video 2, once the cells are nicely rolled and the excess tail taken in, the triangle is made, folded in, then rolled.. far less mucking about than what a canopy goes thru if the pro pack is a really tight fit like my canopy coz of its airlock and extra fabric being so new and slippery!

  • It is called the Psycho pack / method because when we place the half packed canopy on the ground, we throw it onto its back which puts a twist in the lines. When you learn to pack usually, u r taught never ever to twist the lines as this will give you an opening with line twists.. As log as you remember to untwist the lines back after you shove the pack job into the deployment bag there is no problem. This pack job is way easier to get the chite in the bag, and has a nice soft opening every time

  • hehe well this video wasnt meant for you tube, it was for me to learn how to psycho pack... Since i have re-packed my main chute 55 times now 6 weeks and im still alive, i figured this video might be good enuf for someone else to use as well... hope it helped. I will post one up one day of me packing with full edit and captions, just for you matey :)

  • Has written hard opening all over it.... At least thats what my intuition tells me.. Don't you want that slider to have "less freedom" in there? (having the main rolled around the lines a bit, where the slider is? )

  • I have an older ZP canopy (Robo-Z 165) and the openings have always been slammers, even when I've rolled the nose. I learned the psycho about five years ago, and found that it provided some of the smoothest openings I've ever experienced.

My question is on wear and tear from the bridle pulling the top of the canopy out from the middle of the roll like that. Have you noticed any? I don't have enough packs with this technique on my canopy to compare.

    Thanks for posting this vid!

  • I have never seen anyone roll the canapy to be placed in the D-bag like that I tryed it, it fits real nice. I have such the hardist time geting it in the bag any other way. I will go jump it this weekend wish me luck.

  • I can attest to the ease of psycho packing and the good openings as a result. I had problems learning how to PRO pack with a brand new slippery zero p canopy, but this method made it much easier. No chops for me on approximately 1000 psycho packs.

  • how often do you get line overs/line twists and have to cut away.......alot more than me i bet.

  • Looks like a great way to pack a nice, soft, on-heading opening. I always flat packed. It was how I was taught in '87! This looks MUCH better. Particularly splitting the cells in half at the nose and rolling them in opposite directions. Very nice.

  • hi all, you can find the document for psycho pack in the icaruscanopies download section.

  • Yeah....finally, it's not faster trash packing !

I prefer my pro pack method @ 2:50 minutes per canopy ! (i mean time to get in the P.O.D.)

Does someone can record his opening sequence with this trash packing method ?

It could be fun to analyse in slow motion !

Well, this could help my rigger point of view !

  • yawn. i just got done pro packing 2 rigs before this video ended

  • ive had off heading with pro pack, flat pack, everything. this method ive always seen done but never attempted. to be honest this is the most detailed psycho method ive ever seen. my buddy uses this method and hes never had a bad opening yet....knock on wood...but i plan to do it from now on as zero p is like a greased up shopping bag. and im short and fat so alot of canopy with short reach makes it hard to pack. this seems way easier
