Iran continues to harass journalists, Bahai and others

Among other human rights violations, Iran continues to persecute members of the Bahai religion, and to arrest and harass journalists.

The principal representative of the Baha'i International Community to the United Nations reported that seven Bahai community leaders face the death penalty for charges of the spreading of corruption on earth. The seven are Mrs. Fariba Kamalabadi, Mr. Jamaloddin Khanjani, Mr. Afif Naeimi, Mr. Saeid Rezaie, Mrs. Mahvash Sabet, Mr. Behrouz Tavakkoli, and Mr. Vahid Tizfahm. All but one of the group were arrested on 14 May 2008 at their homes in Tehran. Mrs. Sabet was arrested on 5 March 2008 while in Mashhad. The seven have been held in the notorious Evin prison for one year and are facing imminent execution if charged. The seven are represented by lawyer and Nobel peace prize laureate, Shirin Ebedi.

In August 2006, the Iranian leader was reported to have again cast doubt on the existence of the Holocaust, this time in a letter to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, where he wrote that the Holocaust may have been invented by the Allied powers to embarrass Germany.[195]
On 11 December 2006 the "International Conference to Review the Global Vision of the Holocaust" was held in Iran.[196] The conference was called for by and held at the request of Ahmadinejad.[197] Western media widely condemned the conference and described it as a "Holocaust denial conference" or a "meeting of Holocaust deniers",[198] though Iran maintained that it was not a Holocaust denial conference, commenting the conference was meant to "create an opportunity for thinkers who cannot express their views freely in Europe about the Holocaust".[199]
In his September 2007 appearance at Columbia University, Ahmadinejad stated "I'm not saying that it didn't happen at all. This is not judgment that I'm passing here"[21] and that the Holocaust should be left open to debate and research like any other historical event.[200]
In response to some of Ahmadinejad's controversial statements and actions, a variety of sources, including the U.S. Senate,[201][verification needed] have accused Ahmadinejad of anti-Semitism. Ahmadinejad's September 2008 speech to the UN General Assembly, in which he dwelled on what he described as Zionist control of international finance, was also denounced as "blatant anti-Semitism" by German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

El pueblo iraní no es nuestro enemigo y nunca lo ha sido. El liderazgo fanático de ese país es nuestro problema y la preocupación del mundo. Irán combina misiles de largo alcance con mentes de corto alcance.
El líder iraní es un peligro para su pueblo, para la región y para el mundo entero. Él es una auténtica desgracia para el antiguo pueblo iraní. Él es una desgracia para los valores del Islam. Él es una desgracia para esta casa, las Naciones Unidas, sus principios y sus valores básicos. Nunca se ha vertido en este recinto un discurso tan abiertamente antisemita y que llama al odio más bajo como el pronunciado por ese demente. Su aparicion aquí, es ya de por sí una verguenza.
La Asamblea General y el Consejo de Seguridad tienen la responsabilidad de prevenir agonías antes de que ocurran. Israel ha probado que las democracias pueden defenderse a sí mismas. No vamos a cambiar. El terrorismo no ha resuelto ni un sólo problema. Nunca lo ha hecho y nunca lo hará. Los terroristas harán del mundo un lugar ingobernable. Si a un pequeño grupo de violentos asesinos se les permite amenazar a masas inocentes, el mundo quedará sin orden ni seguridad. El mundo libre debe unirse para combatir este flagelo.

Well as for Baha'is criticizing Iranian govt. for not letting them practice their sect. Just imagine if they were in Saudi Arabia. The answer would have been - BEHEADING ENBLOCK ON FRIDAY. Israel is the best place for Baha'is to live where they have the biggest temple and of course the support of the government as well.
