Night Time in Old Town

This animation was produced for the final project of my Bachelor of Design degree.

Night Time in Old Town is based on the premise that live action films have a long tradition of adapting graphic novel source material but have difficulty translating the visual style from page to moving image. A 3D computer animated graphic novel adaptation on the other hand has the advantage of more sympathetically interpreting this graphic novel style and translating the original intention of the novel.

Night Time in Old Town is an adaptation of a little piece of story inspired by the work of Frank Miller, taking his characters and environment into a 3D setting that adds movement and depth to the still images of the book while keeping with the visual style and pacing of the original story.

This was inspired by Sin City right? In A Dame to Kill For, Dwight mentions saving Miho from gangsters. Great idea making a short film out of that. If you should ever decide to do this again, you should use the story of how Marv "straightened out" Nancy's frat boyfriend for roughing her up.

The whole 3D aspect is stunning, I think if you replaced the animated characters with real actors behind a green screen just like Sin City, it would look stunning. Otherwise, fantastic. Great music also.

Brilliant modelling and lighting, but awful animation

love the look! with the black & white only. and the camera movements where pretty slick too. though the animations where kinda stiff could improve on that. keep it up!
