This past weekend I was re-organizing some of the records in my closet and came across this gem, one of the very first pieces of vinyl I ever bought way back in 1998 in a second hand thrift store. (George) Issakidis is probably best known as being one half of the Micronauts, who were well known for their big beat and trip hop music in addition to remix work they did for the likes of Underworld and the Chemical Brothers. Issakidis does not have a huge library of releases, but quality over quantity comes into play here, in addition to longevity as he is still releasing tracks in 2009. This record is Issakidis's very first release and it is relatively obscure. However in one song alone we see him experiment with breakbeats, trip hop, big beat, and even incorporate some dark cinematic strings you would be more accustomed to hearing in a deep house track. What's cool about Drop It is that it doesn't try fitting itself into any specific genre or musical stereotype; instead Issakidis just uses his programming and arrangement expertise to simply make it sound interesting. And even 13 years after it "dropped", the creative spark he had allows this track to still sound fresh to this day.

Thanks for posting. I love this one. Those cinematic strings are sampled from the Cronenberg movie "Naked Lunch" (1991) in case you didn´t know.

Nice one... never heard this.... Reminds me of high school days in NJ (was 16 when this came out) taking the bus to the city. Frequent trips to Strange?, Throb, etc. to buy vinyl. This illbient stuff was huge in the mid-90's
Sub Dub, We, axiom label, Dj Olive, some Instinct stuff loads more
Yeah still love it all too...
