Farmall 450 disc brake actuator assembly

I attempted to capture how the brake mechanism work on the farmall. This one is off a 450 that is not working properly. I suspect it has wore the surfaces and the actuator is hitting the housing when the brakes are applied. Would be the same as a Super M, MD or 400. Measure the travel of the actuator to be about .400 spread. More than enough to account for wear.

Great video! I'm doing brakes on my Case VAC and I suspect it has a design similar to your Farmall. Did you replace or clean any of those surfaces inside the housing? They seems rusty and pitted. What about the rollers and the dimples on the bottom. Did they get cleaned? Do you lube them? I'm hesitant about using anything oily inside brake housings, but I'm new to tractor repairs and thought I'd ask. Thanks for the helpful video.

I did clean it all up and used a dry lubricant (spray on graphite) to assemble it. You do not want anything oily for sure. The brakes work very well on it now. I did have to machine the cover to bring the brakes back to tolerance. don't be surprised if yours is completely different though.

Was hoping it would help others. After research, I learned it is common to trim the face of the cover after these wear a bit. I took right at .100 and installed spacers to remove after the discs wear a bit.

The 450 actuator has worn out of tolerance. I will be trimming the cover to remove much of the .100 is now has.

the brakes on my 1952 case barley work at all. the right one is completly worn out the left one works alittle, but you really got to put your foot into it.
