Obama Talks Education

http://thisismylife.co.uk - President Obama today called on a new generation of Americans to serve the country and become teachers. "We have let our grades slip, our schools crumble, our teacher quality fall short and other nations outpace us," Obama said in an address to the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. "The time for finger-pointing is over. The time for holding ourselves accountable is here." Obama also noted that the recently passed $787 billion stimulus package will allow the U.S. Department of Education to help states upgrade data systems to better measure both student progress and teacher effectiveness.

The stimulus plan, he said, will provide an additional $5 billion for the Head Start program, as well as expand access to child care.

Before the federal government got involved in education the US was #1 in the world in student test scores . Since the federal takeover US students have slipped to #26. If you think that is just a coincidence you must have been educated in the public school system.

The only improvement the federal government can make to education is to get out of public education. These decisions are best made at the local level. One size does not fit all.

Question: has Obama lost his freaking mind?! Forcing everyone to go to Summer School and Saturday School. Hes punishing all the kids in America for America's bad rep. If he wants to fix the problem then make school more fun and less boring instead of forcing everyone to go to school 24/7, thats what college and jobs are for.

What is evil is making children go for too long over a period of time.

lengthening the school day/year is not going to help those students who make bad grades in schools. that's just going to give them a longer time to sleep during class.

test scores should be the most important thing anyways. everyone is not the same & they aren't always going to make straight A's.
