FTR - this song was never actually "finished"... Hazel Eyes was also played on the world tour of which Reading & Leeds 2004 was part, and that was obviously on the 2nd album. Instrumentals like "Buffet" and "Dune Patrol" were used as 'filler' material in live shows... tbh they would've had to do a lot to this song to finish it as most of it is just Justin screaming and occasionally singing a few words!! lol shame cos the music is pretty good!!
I didn't really know about them working on their own, it's a pity things turned out like that. Does anyone actually like the girlfriend remixes? the van halen sounding one's alright, but it's not what the darkness should sound like.
soon after girlfriend came out, they split. And the b sides are the band members own mixes of the song, so instead of getting together to record a song, the atmosphere must have been bad enough to warrant them working on their own.
I allways find it interesting why a song never gets a studio version. And when you think about the girlfriend b sides being remixes of girlfriend, you wonder why they did'nt just make a studio version of something like full moon, it would make a much better b side, although i suppose it wouldn't be in keeping with girlfriend. They played full moon at reading in 2004 aswell so maybe thats a better recording.

Damn! It amazes me how much of their material I haven't heard from a band who only produced 2 albums.

Thanks for this, shame they never produced a studio version, the guitar work is epic.
