Hydrocephalus is the excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid within the brain. It may be present at birth or may develop later in life. The high fluid pressures on the brain can result in lasting effects. These include impaired vision, headaches, sensitivity to changes in external pressure, hearing sensitivity, hormonal imbalance or seizures.

  • In fourth grade my friend went to the hospital for a routine check up and the next day her mom told my mom that he had Hydrocephalus. Although I didn't know what it was at the time seeing this now I realize how hard it must have been for everyone.

  • Iq is independent the brain must rewire itself to compensate, this rewiring is what.can cause delays or other problems. Equating intelligence to brain function is like saying if your keyboard is missing letters the screen must not be working because you can't see those letters appear. Ppl learn new words to compensate so that's how they have a slower type time yet are more gifted in language

  • @buddhasknowbest I recon that's true! I have Hydrocephalus although I play guitar to a very high standard and have been told that my musical ear is incredibly defined and accurate.

  • @ToughMan91 a mental disability usually affects social communication of fine motor skills. mental retardation is when they have a lower IQ.

  • @ToughMan91

Sometimes, when there is an impairment in one section of the brain, another section compensates and an ability is enhanced. This is why many geniuses and artists also have disabilities. I've seen cases of this. Blind people have had increased hearing or cognitive abilities, for example.

  • Well, the speaker mentioned that people with this disease are usually suffering learning disability. So how could they have above average IQ ??

Of, course there are always some exceptions.

  • I heard that people with this have above averge iq, is that true?
