RTE Six One News National Student Protest

RTE finally show footage of Garda brutality at the National Student Protest held in Dublin on November 3rd, 2010 - six days after it occurred.

The report mentions a planned protest against Garda brutality, but fails to state who is organising it, or what time it is at.

@ZZKe7 I work in law. The amount of cases that have to be thrown out because of Garda incompetence is unbelievable. At one trial involving car theft, they actually threw out the car because they were 'finished reviewing the evidence'… before the defence could examine the evidence and before the case could go to trial.

The Gardaí are not well-organised or well run… and the fact that you're responding to a 7 month old comment tells me you're a little bit sensitive about the matter.

@ZZKe7 You mean Eurostat, which is a directorate general of the European Commission? All statistics are made up, based on research and comparative results. Eurostat is one of the best organisations for statistical research because the uniformity of the EU means they can compare like with like.

We need better trained police and more active police. I wouldn't 'have a little cry' because I am a crime and punishment conservative. You are obviously a bitter, defensive person.

@Joebycool .......from the office of made up statistics. Even if what you were saying was true, wouldn't that mean we needed more policing? And for it to be more robust? Then you'd have yourself a little cry over that too.

What are all you whingers complaining about? If you don't like being dragged out of buildings then don't trespass in them. When there is a riot, walk the other way unless you want to be considered part of it. It's pretty simple really; Harden up or don't riot.

I saw two Gardaí chasing a plastic bag down Grafton Street at midnight one night. They couldn't catch it. That's right, our police force can't catch a plastic bag… god help us with criminals, let alone drug lords and gangs. So it's no wonder they take it out on peaceful protesters really.

Statistically Ireland is the worst country in Europe for petty crime, the third worst for sex crimes and the sixth for violent crimes. Anybody want a new police force?
