If I had to recommend first DSLR, I would suggest trying to find xxD line (20/30/40D) in good condition. These series are far more ergonomic and have everything that is needed to learn photography. The number of megapixels really does not make any difference - You can easily make A2 prints from 8MP (I've done some from my 1Dmk2), and the quality was outstanding.
