1.The year of the touchscreen - Nintendo DSi

The DSi will have even more of you stylus scribbling away like a demented, digital Zorro. The DSi has bigger, 3.25-inch, dual screens and improved sound. With a 0.3-meg camera to film you as you're playing, as well as one on the outside and an SD card slot for MP3s and photos, the DSi evolves, it doesn't revolve. It's just 2.6mm deep - 12% thinner than the DS Lite. There's no GBA slot, but that's okay, cos the GBA is the past and the past is dead.

Price: £100

Due: Early 2009

2.The year of the touchscreen - Garmin Nuvifone

This long-awaited, HSDPA-powered super phone harnesses Garmin's navigation expertise, directing you around Dartmoor on a hefty, 3.5-inch touchscreen. There are points of interest and even a button that answers the pressing, philosophical question, "Where Am I?" The screen should also be great for video and browsing and surely, phone calls and texting are impossible to balls up...

Due: Early 2009

3.The year of the touchscreen - Asus P552w PDA phone

Asus's 2.8-inch touchscreen mobile lets you select, zoom, scroll and fl ip your way through the navigation system. It's got the usual Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and superfast HSDPA, but only a two-megapixel camera. Boo.

Price: £499

Due: Early 2009

4.The year of the touchscreen - Nokia N97 Series Touch

It's been heavily rumoured - because it seems like a no-brainer - that Nokia will be adding a touchscreen interface to its next N-series blower. Nokia has been keeping its cards characteristically close to its chest about it, but we predict the N97 will be given a Tube-like sheen of sexiness. Nokia'll probably bump the camera to eight megapixels, and if it's not obsessive about reducing the traditional N-series bulk, we may even see an optical zoom. We also expect it to run on the new Symbian S60 fifth edition OS, unless Nokia opts for the Android approach.

Price: Free on contract

Due: Mid 2009

5.The year of the touchscreen - Napkin PC

This touch interface concept allows multiple users to collaborate on brainstorming projects, make notes or play noughts and crosses or, as it will henceforth be known, Futuristic Noughts and iCrosses. It uses "E-paper" which doesn't require power to retain an image. Microsoft is behind it.

Price: £Unknown

Due: Late 2009

6.The year of the netbook - HP Mini 1000

The HP 2133 Mini Note was about as exciting as being sat next to Alistair Darling for the duration of a bus trip across Belgium. However, HP's latest offering looks set to be a whole lot more enticing. Its hardware offerings are nothing out of the ordinary, but a new Linux MIE operating system looks swish, as does the netbook's polished design.

Price: £399

Due: February 2009

7.The year of the netbook - Elonex One

Elonex caused a massive stir amongst messy, primary-school-age Bebo addicts when they introduced the UK's first sub-£100 laptop. The planned 2009 revamp includes a new design, improved processing power, new software and 3G and 802.11n capability to boot, all still somehow for under a hundred notes. This time there's no removable keyboard, though. Yes, we know. Staunch your tears; be strong and you'll get over it.

Price: £99

Due: Early 2009

8.The year of the netbook - NEC LaVie Light

NEC is making a bid to join the mainstream again with the LaVie Light. It's got a spec sheet that's hauntingly familiar, with a 1.6GHz Atom processor combining with a 160GB hard drive and 1GB of memory. That's right: exactly like every other netbook. With its rugged/boxy/chunky/rubbish look, at least it can't be accused of putting style before substance.

Price: £349

Due: Early 2009

The year of the netbook - Acer Aspire One 3G

The Aspire has rapidly ascended the popularity tree in the ever-more-crowded netbook forest. Improvements for 2009 include integrated 3G capability and embedded WiMax. You'll probably also see an upgrade to the storage capacity, with a 160GB HD or 16GB SSD.

Price: £320 with SSD, £380 with hard drive

Due: Early 2009

10.The year of the netbook - IMOVO iKit

Little bigger than a business card, the iKit has a QWERTY keyboard, Wi-Fi, an optional 0.3-megapixel webcam and runs Linux. While it doesn't come close to the functionality or power of a netbook - it has a short battery life and only accepts USB 1.1 for starters - it demonstrates just how tiny a computer can be.

Price: £99

Due: Early 2009
