jjhoops is correct, it is called a dogbox transmission. The teeth on the gears are square thus having a lower tolerance between them giving it a mechanical whining sound.

@ghoulfart Its called a racing transmission. It has square cut gears for performance, but the side effect is the whining sound. Road cars have round cut gears to be more driver friendly

@JAMEZ350 Thats called a racing transmission. It has square cut gears, thats where the whine comes from. Street transmissions have rounded off corners on the gears to make them silent and more driver friendly
