Linwood Thompson--The History Dude
California State Teacher of the Year '98

Linwood Thompson is a history teacher at Bellflower High School. For the last 30 years, Mr. Thompson has successfully developed a solid education program attracting international attention for its creativity and innovation.

Mr. Thompson entered teaching as a second profession. Trained in classical theatre, he originally moved to California intending to become an actor. However, as he says, "Mel Gibson was already here, so I realized I had better look for another profession."

As a teacher, Lin realized he could combine his two loves, history and theare. With the aid of costumes and accents, historical figures and events are brought to life before his students' very eyes. "history is a blast!," "He makes history come alive!" and "I even told my mom about him," are just some of the comments collected from his students.
