@alxcookie Well that's another story. I agree that one should learn about other people's theories even if they don't agree with them. I've studied a fair bit into evolutionary theories and they're actually very diverse depending who you talk to. However the context of the messages I've mostly seen seems to suggest that simply because he doesn't agree with the theory of evolution makes him an idiot. That is simply illogical.

Rex Murphy is actually funny mmmm-k
-
@GeneralDomination Yes, but he didn't even understand the theory. You need to understand how the evolution theory was formed and know at least a little about the scientific method to be science minister. You can't deny it was a bad placement for the guy.
-
@Balian49 And that last bit about people rejecting evolution because of prior beliefs works both ways. Btw even Richard Dawkins the proud face of modern evolutionist debate teams admits that there is at least the illusion of a creator's fingerprint in living things. Of course he uses the word illusion to dismiss the possibility that he hasn't been right all along.
-
@Balian49 Einstein makes constant references throughout his life to the creator and in fact calls the creator God on several occasions.
"I want to know God's thoughts; the rest are details."
"Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind."
Here are a few quotes from him. These just a few of the ones that were recorded. And the scientific consensus NOW is uncertain. Debates still flair up over creationism vs evolutionis with victories on both sides.
-
Einstein was NOT a creationist. You cannot fall back on the belief that it "might" be wrong. The theory of gravity "might" be wrong! The religious views of past scientists is irrelevant. What matters is scientific consensus NOW. You cannot be the science minister and have a non opinion on the most important theory in science. People do not reject evolution because they can't find evidence for it. They reject it because they already believe something else.
-
saying a creationist is to a science minister what a pacifist is to defense minister is assuming you're right. Science has seen many once very popular theories and even laws shatter. Even if currently there is lots of evidence to support evolution that doesn't mean it is infallible. Einstein was creationist, in fact many brilliant inventors and scientists were creationists. There were also brilliant evolutionists. So is it not possible that he can be right for the job and not evolutionist?
-
This has nothing to do with having the "right to an opinion". It is about selecting someone for a government position who is best suited for that position. Like the video says, we don't have a pacifist as our defense minister, because their beliefs would adversely impact their performance. So, having a science minister who has a fundamental skepticism, and lack of respect, of science, is ridiculous.
And you are obviously skeptical of evolution. Good luck with that...
-
@Balian49 Is this a free country? Are we allowed an opinion? Are we allowed equal rights? I am not argueing against evolution. You don't even know if he is creationist he chose to be anonymous so as to not be bias. And evolution is not the basis for much modern science. It is the basis of a few very new theories still in the testing stages. And the Vatican is a religious organization whose beliefs are not aethiest. Science last I checked was a method of learning not a belief system.
We have a creationist science minister? Are you fucking kidding me???
